Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement (2.2L (L61) and 3.5L (L66)) .
  2. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (3.5L (L66)) .
  3. Remove the underhood fuse/relay box.
  4. Disconnect the fuel feed line from the fuel rail. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Chassis .
  5. Disconnect the engine harness connectors to gain access.
  6. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM). Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement .
  7. Remove the right rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  8. Remove the right camshaft drive sprocket. Refer to Camshaft Drive Sprocket Replacement - Right Side .

  10. Alternately loosen the rocker shaft retaining bolts a few turns at a time using the loosening sequence.
  11. Remove the rocker arm and shaft assembly.

  13. Remove the rear camshaft cap, bolts, and O-ring.
  14. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder head.
  15. Remove the camshaft seal.
  16. Clean all of the bearing surfaces.
  17. Clean all of the sealing surfaces.
  18. Clean and inspect the camshafts. Refer to Camshafts Cleaning and Inspection .
