WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Tools Required
- EN 46336 Valve Guide Seal Installer. See Special Tools .
- EN 46353 Valve Spring Compressor Attachment - Head Off-Vehicle. See Special Tools .
- SA9124E Regulator Valve Remover/Replacer. See Special Tools .
- 2004 through early 2006 production engines use first design valve spring caps and keys. The first design keys can be identified as silver in color and the spring cap has no marking on the top surface.
- Later 2006 production engines use the second design valve spring caps and keys. The second design keys can be identified as black in color and the spring cap has dimples or ID markings on the top surface.
- The first and second design keys and caps are interchangeable as a set within a given valve. It is recommended that components of a similar design level are used throughout a specific engine.
- Use only first or second design level components on a specific engine. Do not mix first and second design components within a given valve. The taper of the key and contact surface in the cap are different between the first and second design level components.
- Inspect the valve stem keys and caps and identify for proper usage and assembly.
- The first design keys (2) can be identified as silver in color and the spring cap (1) has no markings on the top surface.
- The second design keys (3) can be identified as black in color and the spring cap (4) has dimples or ID markings on the top surface.
- If using the components again, return the components to their original location and position. Refer to Separating Parts .
- Install the seats (202).
- Lubricate the valve stem oil seals (203) with clean engine oil.
- Use the EN 46336 in order to install the valve stem oil seals onto the guides. See Special Tools . Intake valve seals have a white spring (1). Exhaust valve seals have a black spring (2).
- Install the valves (222), springs (204), and caps (205).
- Use the SA9124E (2) and the EN 46353 (1) in order to compress the valve spring. See Special Tools .
- Install the valve stem keys and remove the SA9124E (2) and EN 46353 (1). See Special Tools .
- Using a plastic-face hammer, lightly tap the end of each valve stem 2-3 times to ensure proper seating of the valve and keys.
