Removal Procedure

- Remove the manual shift lever from the vehicle. Refer to MANUAL SELECTOR REPLACEMENT REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS .
- Remove the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) from the vehicle. Refer to SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) in SIR.
- Disconnect the HO2S electrical sensor. Refer to ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION or ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in Engine Controls 1.8L (LV6).
- Remove the air cleaner assembly from the vehicle.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
- Remove the exhaust pipe from the vehicle. Refer to FRONT PIPE REPLACEMENT in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the front heat shield from the vehicle.
- Remove the cable retaining clip, then disconnect the cable from the bracket.
- Remove the shift select cable from the cable support bracket.
- Remove the 2 nuts then separate the cable from the vehicle.
- Using a screwdriver, disconnect the shift select cable from the bracket.
- Disconnect the shift select cable from the transaxle.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the shift select cable from the vehicle.
- Inspect the shift select cable for kinks, fraying, or excessive wear. Replace as necessary.
