Installation Procedure
- Install the 6 transaxle to engine retaining bolts.
Tighten
- Tighten the bolts (1) to 64 N.m (47 lb ft).
- Tighten the bolt (2) to 46 N.m (35 lb ft).
- Tighten the bolts (3) to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).
- Install the rear transaxle mounting bracket to the transaxle with the 3 bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 64 N.m (47 lb ft).
- Install the front transaxle mount to the transaxle with the 2 bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 64 N.m (47 lb ft).
- Install the transmission support with the 4 bolts on the vehicle.
Tighten
- Tighten the bolts (1) to 39 N.m (29 lb ft).
- Tighten the bolt (2) to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the front mount through bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the rear transaxle mount to the transmission support.
- Install the 3 nuts and bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt and 3 nuts to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the rear transaxle mount through bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt and nut to 87 N.m (64 lb ft).
- Install the left transaxle mounting bracket and 3 bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the left mount to the body.
Tighten
Tighten the 4 bolts to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the left mount through bolt and nut.
Tighten
Tighten the through bolt and nut to 80 N.m (59 lb ft).
IMPORTANT: The gray colored bolt must be installed first. This bolt is to insure proper alignment for the other 5 bolts. - Install the 6 torque converter bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Install the flywheel inspection cover
- Lower the jack from the transaxle.
- Install the starter assembly in the vehicle. Refer to STARTING SYSTEM in Engine Electrical.
- Install the left and right drive shafts. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
- Install the exhaust pipe in the vehicle. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (AWD) or CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (2WD) in Engine Exhaust.
- Install the front wheels. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in Tires and Wheels.
- Install the drain plug with a new gasket.
Tighten
Tighten the drain plug to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).
- Install the left lower splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE - LEFT in Body Front End.
- Install the right lower splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE - RIGHT in Body Front End.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the engine support fixture.
- Connect the transaxle oil cooler pipes to the transaxle.
Tighten
Tighten the oil cooler pipe nuts 35 N.m (25 lb ft).
- Install the oil filler tube with a new O-ring into the transaxle.
- Install the 2 bolts with the oil cooler pipe clamp to the transaxle assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the oil cooler pipe clamp bolts 6 N.m (49 lb in).
- Connect the shift cable to the transaxle, then install the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Connect the shift cable to the transaxle, then install the clip.
- Connect the shift cable to the cable bracket, then install the bracket bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Connect the 3 electrical connectors to the transaxle.
- Connect the oxygen sensor electrical connector. Refer to ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION or Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 Replacement (AWD) on page 6-973 in Engine Controls 1.8L (LV6).
- Connect the 2 wire harness brackets, then install the 2 bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Install the 2 bolts and ground cables to the transaxle.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (7 lb ft).
- Install the cruise control servo in the vehicle. Refer to CRUISE CONTROL SERVO REPLACEMENT in Cruise Control.
- Install the battery tray and the 4 bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 13 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Install the battery. Refer to BATTERY REPLACEMENT in Engine Electrical.
- Install the air cleaner case assembly.
- Install the cylinder head cover in the engine. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER REMOVAL in Engine Mechanical - 1.8L (LV6).
- Install the hood on the vehicle. Refer to HOOD REPLACEMENT in Body Front End.
- Fill the transaxle with 3.1 L (3.25 qt) of AC Delco T-IV (GM P/N 88900925).
