Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the low one-way clutch sprag assembly into the low one-way clutch outer race with the flanged side of the sprag assembly toward the finished (shiny) side of the low one-way clutch outer race.
  2. Install the following components into both sides of the low one-way clutch outer race:
    • The low one-way clutch retainers
    • The low one-way clutch snap rings
  3. Inspect the low one-way clutch after assembly by placing the low one-way clutch onto the rear planetary carrier, holding the low one-way clutch stationary and rotating the rear planetary carrier.
    • The rear planetary carrier (1) should turn freely in a counterclockwise direction and should not turn in a clockwise direction.
    • If the low one-way clutch is correctly installed (finished side up) on the rear planetary carrier and the rear planetary carrier can be turned clockwise, replace the low one-way clutch.
