Removal Procedure

NOTE:
When lifting the vehicle do not allow the jack to touch the rear steering gear. If the jack touches the rear steering gear you may damage the gear or the rack and pinion boots. If the boots are damaged replace the rack and pinion boot.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the rack and pinion boot from the steering gear. Refer to Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement .
Important: The inner tie rod support clamp has right hand threads. The inner tie rod support nut has left hand threads. To remove the support clamp turn the clamp counterclockwise.
- Using the J 44665-1 (1) and J 44665-2 (2) remove the inner tie rod support clamp.
- Remove the inner tie rod (1) from the steering gear using the J 44665-2 (2).
