Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important: Make sure the rack and pinion boot is seated in the groove (2) on the steering gear actuator.

Install the boot to the steering gear.

Install the outer clamp (1) retaining the boot (2) to the steering gear.
Install the inner clamp (3) retaining the boot (2) to the steering gear.

Using the J 22610 , crimp the retaining clamp (1) to the steering gear.

Install the rack and pinion boot protector (1) to the rack and pinion boot (2), if equipped.

Install the tie rod jam nut (2) to the inner tie rod.
Install the outer tie rod. Refer to REAR WHEEL STEERING TIE ROD END REPLACEMENT - Outer .
Perform a four wheel alignment. Refer to MEASURING WHEEL ALIGNMENT (WITH REAR WHEEL STEERING) or MEASURING WHEEL ALIGNMENT (WITHOUT REAR WHEEL STEERING) .
