Description and Operation: Definitions

The following definitions are provided to establish a common language and assist users in describing transaxle related conditions.

Clutch Shudder

A repeated jerking sensation caused by slipping and grabbing of the clutch disc while releasing the clutch, causing the vehicle to launch.

High Pedal Effort

An unusual amount of force is required to apply the clutch pedal.

Pedal Vibration

A vibration that is transmitted through the clutch pedal.

Spongy Clutch

Spongy feel when applying the clutch, usually an indication of air in the hydraulic clutch system.

Squeaky Clutch

A squeak is generated while applying or releasing the clutch pedal.

Inoperative Clutch

A non-functional clutch.

High Engagement Point

Long clutch pedal travel during pedal release, before the clutch disc engages with the engine.
