Test D: Chime Inoperative

- Perform audible warnings system diagnostic system check. See AUDIBLE WARNINGS SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If audible warnings system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, perform CHIME TEST in RADIO. If chime sounds when on is selected, go to next step. If chime does not sound when on is selected, go to step 4 .
- Open driver's door and observe DOOR AJAR indicator. If DOOR AJAR indicator is illuminated, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS . Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step 6 . If DOOR AJAR indicator is not illuminated, go to TEST F: DOOR AJAR INDICATOR MALFUNCTION .
- Turn on radio. Adjust radio balance and fade to left front speaker. If speaker operates properly, go to next step. If speaker does not operate properly, repair as necessary. See RADIO in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Replace and reprogram radio. If vehicle is not equipped with radio, replace and reprogram multifunction alarm module. See RADIO or MULTIFUNCTION ALARM MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system does not operate normally, return to step 2 .
