DTC B0162: Temperature Sensor Circuit Open: Description
Driver Information Center (DIC) applies 5 volts to ambient air temperature sensor. Ambient air temperature sensor is a thermistor which varies in resistance as temperature changes. As resistance of ambient air temperature sensor increases, DIC senses a larger voltage drop across sensor, indicating a lower temperature. As resistance of ambient air temperature sensor decreases, DIC senses a small voltage drop across sensor, indicating a higher temperature.
DTC will set when DIC detects that temperature is less than -40°F (-40°C) for more than 2 seconds. OC is displayed by DIC in compass/temperature mode when DTC B0162 is set. DTC B0162 will clear become a history DTC when DIC no longer detects a failure. History DTC B0162 will clear after 100 fault free ignition cycles. B0162 will also clear when DIC receives clear code command from scan tool.
