Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Buick Regal. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the oil pan gasket and the oil pump pipe screen assembly.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the oil pump pipe screen bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 15 N-m (11 lb ft).

    NOTE: Install the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, after the oil pan is installed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil level sensor is installed first.
  3. Install the oil pan.
  4. Clean the oil pan bolts and apply one drop of thread lock compound GM P/N 12345382, (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the oil pan bolt threads.
  5. Install the oil pan bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the oil pan bolts to 14 N-m (125 lb in).

  6. Install the oil level sensor.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the sensor to 20 N-m (15 lb ft).

  7. Install the torque converter covers.
  8. Install the engine mount and the bracket to the frame.
  9. Using the jack stands raise the frame to the original position.
  10. Install the frame bolts.
  11. Remove the jack stands.
  12. Install the right ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to LOWER CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT in Front Suspension.
  13. Install the right stabilizer link. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT LINK REPLACEMENT in Front Suspension.
  14. Install the engine mount bracket to the engine.
  15. Loosely install the right engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.

  16. Loosely install the left engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 102 N-m (75 lb ft).

  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Using the engine support fixture lower the engine.
  19. Raise the vehicle.
  20. Install the engine mount lower nuts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nuts to 47 N-m (35 lb ft).

  21. Install the oil level sensor wiring harness and the oil level sensor wiring harness bolt to the engine.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolt to 10 N-m (89 lb in).

  22. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  23. Install the power steering oil cooler pipe brackets to the frame.
  24. Install right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nuts to 30 N-m (22 lb ft).

  25. Install the engine oil filter.
  26. Lower the vehicle.
  27. Remove the engine support fixture.
  28. Install the right and left engine mount struts. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT - RIGHT  and ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT - LEFT  .
  29. Install the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT in Removal & Installation - A/T.
  30. Fill the crankcase with engine oil. Refer to ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT  .
  31. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to FUEL INJECTOR SIGHT SHIELD REPLACEMENT (L36)  or FUEL INJECTOR SIGHT SHIELD REPLACEMENT (L67)  .
  32. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Battery.
  33. Inspect for leaks.
  34. Measure the wheel alignment. Refer to MEASURING WHEEL ALIGNMENT in Wheel Alignment.
