Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Buick Regal. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install the oil pan gasket and the oil pump pipe screen assembly.
NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
- Install the oil pump pipe screen bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 15 N-m (11 lb ft).
NOTE: Install the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, after the oil pan is installed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil level sensor is installed first. - Install the oil pan.
- Clean the oil pan bolts and apply one drop of thread lock compound GM P/N 12345382, (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the oil pan bolt threads.
- Install the oil pan bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan bolts to 14 N-m (125 lb in).
- Install the oil level sensor.
Tighten
Tighten the sensor to 20 N-m (15 lb ft).
- Install the torque converter covers.
- Install the engine mount and the bracket to the frame.
- Using the jack stands raise the frame to the original position.
- Install the frame bolts.
- Remove the jack stands.
- Install the right ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to LOWER CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT in Front Suspension.
- Install the right stabilizer link. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT LINK REPLACEMENT in Front Suspension.
- Install the engine mount bracket to the engine.
- Loosely install the right engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.
- Loosely install the left engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 102 N-m (75 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Using the engine support fixture lower the engine.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the engine mount lower nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 47 N-m (35 lb ft).
- Install the oil level sensor wiring harness and the oil level sensor wiring harness bolt to the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N-m (89 lb in).
- Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
- Install the power steering oil cooler pipe brackets to the frame.
- Install right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 30 N-m (22 lb ft).
- Install the engine oil filter.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the engine support fixture.
- Install the right and left engine mount struts. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT - RIGHT and ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT - LEFT .
- Install the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT in Removal & Installation - A/T.
- Fill the crankcase with engine oil. Refer to ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT .
- Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to FUEL INJECTOR SIGHT SHIELD REPLACEMENT (L36) or FUEL INJECTOR SIGHT SHIELD REPLACEMENT (L67) .
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Battery.
- Inspect for leaks.
- Measure the wheel alignment. Refer to MEASURING WHEEL ALIGNMENT in Wheel Alignment.
