Removal Procedure

IMPORTANT: Before beginning the following service procedure, place a automatic transmission equipped vehicle into the PARK position, place a manual transmission equipped vehicle into FIRST GEAR. Then place the transfer case in the 2HI position.
  1. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped.

    Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement .

  2. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT-FRONT .
    IMPORTANT: When performing this service procedure, use a small pocket screwdriver in order to release the retaining clip on the ends of the control rod.
  3. Remove the control rod from the control lever.

  5. Remove the control rod from the shift lever.
  6. Remove the control rod.
