Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2003 GMC Envoy XL, 2003 GMC Envoy, and 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the spare tire carrier. Refer to TIRE HOIST AND SHAFT REPLACEMENT  in Tires and Wheels.
  2. Remove the rear fascia. Refer to FASCIA REPLACEMENT - REAR BUMPER   . 
  3. Disconnect the trailer/towing receptacle electrical connector.
  4. Rotate the trailer/towing receptacle assembly counterclockwise and remove from the vehicle.

  5. Remove the 4 rearward bolts that retain the impact bar assembly to the frame rails.
  6. While an assistant holds the impact bar (1) assembly in place, remove the remaining 2 retaining bolts.
  7. Remove the impact bar (1) assembly from the vehicle with an assistant.
