Removal Procedure

- Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
- Remove the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.
- Remove the wave washer (1) from the steering shaft assembly (2).
- Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 . See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Remove the bearing retainer from the steering shaft assembly.
- Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 . See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Dispose of the bearing retainer.
- Remove the cam orientation plate (5) from the steering shaft assembly.
- Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) from the steering shaft assembly.
- Remove the upper bearing spring (3) from the steering shaft assembly.
- Remove the upper bearing inner race seat (2) from the steering shaft assembly.
- Remove the inner race (1) from the steering shaft assembly.
- Remove the windshield wiper and washer switch assembly only. Refer to Wipers/Washer Switch Replacement in Wipers/Washers.
- Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly only. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal Switch Replacement .
- Slide the signal switch bracket off of the steering column shaft assembly.
- Remove the steering shaft and tilt head housing as an assembly. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket Replacement (Telescoping) or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket Replacement (Manual) .
- Remove the tilt head housing from the steering shaft.
CAUTION:

IMPORTANT:
Let the SIR coil hang freely after removal.
