Removal & Installation (Monte Carlo)

CAUTION: Use correct fastener in correct location. Replacement fasteners must be correct part number for application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in service procedures. DO NOT use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage fastener. Use correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to part and systems.
  1. Adjust steering when to gain access. Using a small flat-bladed tool, remove bezel from ignition switch cylinder. Remove access covers from left instrument panel fuse block. Release left instrument panel insulator tabs from lower instrument panel trim pad retainer for access. Remove bolts fro steering column filler panel.
  2. Release steering column filler panel retainers fro instrument panel lower trim panel. Carefully lower panel away from instrument panel lower trim panel. Disconnect electrical connector from rear compartment release switch. Remove rear compartment release switch. Remove steering column filler panel.
  3. Open instrument panel compartment door. Remove screw from left side of instrument panel cluster trim plate. Remove screw from right side of instrument panel cluster trim plate. If vehicle is equipped with a front floor console, position transaxle shift control lever to rear most position.
  4. Remove trim plate stating at right side of instrument panel cluster and pulling rearward, continuing until all retainers are released. Disconnect electrical connector from hazard switch. Moderately twist left side of instrument panel cluster trim plate in order to clear cluster from instrument panel. Remove instrument panel cluster trim plate.
  5. Remove screws from radio. Pull radio out of instrument panel. Disconnect instrument panel wiring harness connector and antenna cable connector from radio. Remove radio from instrument panel.
    6. NOTE: If radio locator tab is difficult to align to instrument panel locator opening, pull radio toward you and reposition antenna cable.
  6. To install, reverse removal procedures. Align radio locator tab to instrument panel locator opening while pressure radio into instrument panel until fully seated. After installation, preform radio set up procedure. See RADIO SETUP  under PROGRAMMING.
