Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Envoy XL and 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the cylinder head and gasket. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENT - LEFT   or CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENT - RIGHT   .
  2. Remove the valve lifter guide bolts.

  3. Remove the valve lifters and guide.
    IMPORTANT: Some valve lifters may be stuck in their bores because of gum or varnish deposits.
  4. Use J 3049-A  or equivalent in order to remove the valve lifters (if required).

  5. Remove the valve lifters from the guide.
  6. Organize or mark the components so that they can be installed in the same location from which they were removed.
  7. Clean and inspect the valve lifters. Refer to VALVE LIFTERS AND GUIDES CLEANING AND INSPECTION   .
