Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2003 GMC Envoy XL, 2003 GMC Envoy, 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, and 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM (BODY VIN CODE 6) or DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM (BODY VIN CODE 3) in Engine Cooling.
  2. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (LL8) or Transmission Replacement (LM4) in Automatic Transmission - 4L60/4L65-E.
  3. Remove the generator. Refer to CHARGING SYSTEM or CHARGING SYSTEM in Engine Electrical.

  4. Using the J 43181 disconnect the outlet hose from the heater core outlet tube (1).
    1. Install the J 43181 to the outlet heater core hose.
    2. Close the tool around the outlet heater core hose.
    3. Firmly pull the tool into the quick connect end of the heater hose.
    4. Firmly grasp the heater hose. Pull the heater hose forward in order to disengage the hose from the heater core.
  5. Remove the heater outlet hose (3) from the heater core (1).
  6. Position the outlet heater hose clamp (6) at the water pump using J 38185.
  7. Remove the heater outlet hose (7) from the outlet hose fitting.
  8. Remove the heater outlet hose.
