Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the rear axle housing cover and the gasket. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement  .
  4. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement  .

  6. Remove the axle shaft seal and/or the bearing from the axle housing using the J 44685  (1) and the. See Special Tools and Equipment .J 2619-01  (2).
