Removal Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Remove the outer tie rod. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
- Remove the rack and pinion gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear Replacement .
- Remove and discard the small seal retaining clamp (1).
- Remove and discard the large seal retaining clamp (1) from the rack and pinion boot (2) with side cutters.
- Firmly pull rack and pinion boot (1) from the gear.
Discard the rack and pinion boot (1).
IMPORTANT:
All boot parts must be replaced when replacing the inner tie rod.
IMPORTANT:
Do not cut the end of the boot or place a screwdriver between boot and tie rod.
