Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Install the NEW power steering gear oil seal (1) to the power steering gear using the seal installation end of the J 44586  (2). See Special Tools and Equipment .

  3. Ensure the power steering gear oil seals (1) are fully seated in the power steering gear.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Install the power steering hose assembly to the vehicle.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  7. Install the power steering hose assembly to frame brackets retaining bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the power steering hose assembly bracket to the wheel well.
  9. Install the power steering hose assembly bracket retaining bolt at the wheel well.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  10. Install the fuse block.
  11. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  12. Connect the fuse block harnesses to the wiring loops.

  14. Install the power steering cooler hose (2) the power steering pump.
  15. NOTE: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  16. Install the power steering pressure hose (1) to the power steering pump.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering pressure hose fitting to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  17. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  18. Install the power steering hose assembly to front crossmember bracket mounting bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  19. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  21. Install the power steering return hose and the power steering cooler hose to the power steering cooler.
  22. Remove the power steering gear oil seals from the power steering gear using J 44586  . See Special Tools and Equipment .

  24. Connect the power steering hose assembly to the power steering gear.
  25. Install the power steering hose assembly to power steering gear retaining bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

  26. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
  27. Lower the vehicle.
  28. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
