Removal Procedure

- Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (LL8) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (LM4) in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (LM4) or Transmission Replacement (LL8) in Automatic Transmission - 4L60/4L65-E.
- Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (4.2L Engine) or Generator Replacement (5.3L Engine) in Engine Electrical.
- Using the J 43181
disconnect the outlet hose from the heater core outlet tube (1). See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Install the J 43181 to the outlet heater core hose. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Close the tool around the outlet heater core hose.
- Firmly pull the tool into the quick connect end of the heater hose.
- Firmly grasp the heater hose. Pull the heater hose forward in order to disengage the hose from the heater core.
- Remove the heater outlet hose (3) from the heater core (1).
- Position the outlet heater hose clamp (6) at the water pump using J 38185 .
- Remove the heater outlet hose (7) from the outlet hose fitting.
- Remove the heater outlet hose.
