Removal Procedure

- Remove the cylinder head and gasket. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement - Left or Cylinder Head Replacement - Right .
- Remove the valve lifter guide bolts.
- Remove the valve lifters and guide.
- Use J 3049-A or equivalent in order to remove the valve lifters (if required). See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Remove the valve lifters from the guide.
- Organize or mark the components so that they can be installed in the same location from which they were removed.
- Clean and inspect the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifters and Guides Cleaning and Inspection .
IMPORTANT:
Some valve lifters may be stuck in their bores because of gum or varnish deposits.
