Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure .
  2. Remove the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.2L.

  4. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) retaining bolts (3) and nuts (6).
  5. Remove the PCM mounting studs (5) and position the PCM out of the way.

  7. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector (1).

  9. Disconnect the fuel feed (1) and fuel return (2) pipes from the fuel rail. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Metal Collar) .
  10. Disconnect the integral clip (3) from the wire harness bracket.

  12. Remove the engine wire harness bracket bolt.
  13. Position the engine electrical wire harness bracket with wires attached out of the way.

  15. Disconnect the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector.

  17. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose from the intake manifold.

  19. Disconnect the vacuum brake booster hose at the intake manifold.
  20. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (4.2L Engine) in Engine Electrical.

    IMPORTANT: The intake manifold bolts are captured within the intake manifold. Do not attempt to remove the bolts from the intake manifold.
  22. Loosen the intake manifold bolts.
  23. Remove the intake manifold.
