Crankshaft Balancer Installation

Tools Required
- J 45059 Angle Meter. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- J 41478 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Install the crankshaft balancer using J 41478 . See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Remove J 41478 . See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Hold the flywheel or back of the crankshaft. The crankshaft balancer does not have a keyway so the crankshaft could turn when tightening, causing an improper torque.
- Install the crankshaft balancer washer and new bolt.
Tighten:
- Tighten the new crankshaft balancer bolt while holding the back to 150 N.m (110 lb ft).
- Use J 45059 to tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt an additional 180 degrees. See Special Tools and Equipment .

IMPORTANT:
Be sure the crankshaft balancer friction washer, GM P/N 12573950, was installed prior to the engine front cover installation.
