Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the spare tire carrier. Refer to Tire Hoist and Shaft Replacement in Tires and Wheels.
  2. Remove the rear fascia. Refer to Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper .
  3. Disconnect the trailer/towing receptacle electrical connector.

  4. Rotate the trailer/towing receptacle assembly counterclockwise and remove from the vehicle.

  6. Remove the 4 rearward bolts that retain the impact bar assembly to the frame rails.
  7. While an assistant holds the impact bar (1) assembly in place, remove the remaining 2 retaining bolts.
  8. Remove the impact bar (1) assembly from the vehicle with an assistant.
