Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the liftgate window garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Rear Window in Interior Trim.
  2. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)  or Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL) .

  4. Pull the liftgate wiring harness passthrough boot away from the liftgate.
  5. Disconnect the liftgate wiring harness inline connector.
  6. Disconnect the rear washer fluid supply line.
  7. Disconnect the rear windshield defogger connectors (2).

  8. Disconnect the electrical connectors (3) from the liftgate module.

  9. Disconnect the license plate lamp connector (1).

  10. Disconnect the liftgate window latch connector (2).
  11. Disconnect the rear windshield wiper motor connector (1).

  13. Disconnect the 2 liftgate power lock assembly connectors (1,3).

    IMPORTANT: Note the routing of the liftgate wiring harness prior to removal.
  15. Use the J 36796  in order to release the wiring harness retainers.
  16. Remove the wiring harness from the liftgate.
