Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the license pocket lamps. Refer to License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  2. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)  or Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL) .

  3. Disconnect the bellcrank rod from the outside door release handle.
    4. Fig 2: Removing License Pocket From Liftgate

  4. Remove the screws that retain the license pocket to the liftgate.
  5. Remove the license pocket from the liftgate.
  6. Remove the liftgate handle from the license plate pocket. Refer to Handle Replacement - Liftgate .
