Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  2. Remove the cargo net, if equipped.
  3. Remove the luggage/cargo shelf assembly, if equipped.
  4. Remove the right sound insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Lower (GMC/Chevrolet) in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  5. Remove the front door sill plates. Refer to Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front .
  6. Remove the rear door sill plates. Refer to Door Sill Plate Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)  or Door Sill Plate Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL, Envoy XUV) .
  7. NOTE: Remove the headliner and the headliner harness as an assembly. Do NOT cut or splice the headliner harness. Cutting or splicing the harness may damage the coax cable, resulting in poor radio performance.
  8. Remove the center pillar trim panels. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar .
  9. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar .
  10. Remove the video display, if equipped. Refer to Video Display Replacement in Entertainment.
  11. If equipped, remove the overhead console. Refer to Console Replacement - Overhead (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)  or Console Replacement - Overhead (Envoy XUV) .
  12. Remove the sunshades from the headliner. Refer to Sunshade Replacement .
  13. If equipped with OnStar®, perform the following procedure:
    1. Disconnect the navigation antenna cable from the communication interface module. Refer to Navigation Control Processor Bracket Replacement (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada) or Navigation Control Processor Bracket Replacement (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL) in Cellular Communication.
    2. Remove the navigation antenna cable from the right side door rocker panel attachments.
    3. Remove the navigation antenna cable from the right center pillar.

  15. Remove the following headliner harness clips from the left center pillar:
    • The center pillar harness clips (4)
    • The center pillar harness clips (3)
    • The center pillar harness clips (1)
  16. Remove the center pillar harness ground bolt (2).
  17. Remove the harness from the left center pillar.
  18. Remove the rear seats. Refer to Seat Back Replacement - Rear No. 1 (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada) , Seat Back Replacement - Rear No. 1 (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL, Envoy XUV) , and to Seat Cushion Replacement - Rear No. 1 (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada) in Seats.
  19. Remove the headliner harness retaining clips (2) from the rocker panel and floor panel.

  20. Remove the center pillar headliner harness electrical connector from the bussed electrical center, and the block base from the floor panel. Refer to Rear Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement in Wiring Systems.
  21. Reach underneath the carpet and remove the headliner harness electrical connector (1) from the IP wire harness.

  23. Disconnect the inside rear view mirror electrical connector (6).
  24. Disconnect the rain sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
  25. Disconnect the navigation antenna electrical connector, if equipped.
  26. Remove the upper rear quarter trim panels. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada) .
  27. Remove the coat hooks from the roof panel. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement .
  28. Remove the 2 push pins from the rear of the headliner.
  29. Release the assist handles from the roof panel. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement .
  30. Fully recline the bucket seats.
  31. With the aid of an assistant, release the interlocking strips (1) that retain the headliner to the roof panel.

  33. If the vehicle is equipped with a sunroof, partially lower the headliner and disconnect the sunroof assembly electrical connector.
  34. With the aid of an assistant, remove the headliner from the vehicle.
