Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Position the rear seats in the cargo position.
  2. Remove the rear seat/midgate rest. Refer to Rest Replacement - Rear Seat and Midgate in Seats.
  3. Remove the jack and tool stowage container bracket. Refer to Jack and Tool Stowage Container Bracket Replacement (Envoy XUV) .
  4. Remove the left rear seat. Refer to Seat Replacement - Rear No. 1 (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL, Envoy XUV) in Seats.
  5. Ensure the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  6. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
  7. Remove the right sound insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Lower (GMC/Chevrolet) in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  8. Remove the left/right front door sill plates. Refer to Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front .
  9. Remove the left/right rear door sill plates. Refer to Door Sill Plate Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)  or Door Sill Plate Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL, Envoy XUV) .
    10. NOTE: Remove the headliner and the headliner harness as an assembly. Do NOT cut or splice the headliner harness. Cutting or splicing the harness may damage the coax cable, resulting in poor radio performance.
  10. Remove the center pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar .
  11. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar .
  12. Remove the overhead console. Refer to Console Replacement - Overhead (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)  or Console Replacement - Overhead (Envoy XUV) .
  13. Remove the sunshades from the headliner. Refer to Sunshade Replacement .

  14. Disconnect the inside rear view mirror electrical connector.
  15. Remove the rear floor trim panel assembly. Refer to Trim Cover Replacement - Rear Floor Trim Panel .
  16. Remove the upper body lock pillar trim cover. Refer to Trim Cover Replacement - Body Lock Pillar Upper Tie Bar - Passenger (Envoy XUV) .
  17. Remove the 2 push pins from the rear of the headliner.
  18. Remove the left/right lower body lock pillar trim panels. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Body Lock Pillar Lower (Envoy XUV) .
  19. Remove the left/right upper body lock pillar trim panels. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Body Lock Pillar Upper (Envoy XUV) .

  20. Remove the headliner harness (1) from the body electrical center (3). Refer to Rear Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement .
  21. Peel the carpet forward to expose the wiring harness.

  22. Remove the clips (2) on the headliner harness (1) from the left hand lock pillar.
  23. Remove the headliner harness (1) from the floor studs (3).
  24. Remove the headliner harness electrical connector from the I/P wire harness.

  25. Remove the clips (3) on the navigation coax antenna cable (2) from the right hand lock pillar.
  26. Remove the navigation coax antenna cable from the floor studs (1).
  27. If equipped with OnStar®, perform the following procedure:
    1. Remove the cover from the communication interface module.
    2. Disconnect the navigation coax antenna cable (2) from the communication interface module (1). Refer to Communication Interface Module Replacement (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)Communication Interface Module Replacement (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL) in Cellular Communication.

    3. Pull the navigation coax antenna cable back through the hole in the carpet.
  28. Release the assist handles from the roof panel. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement .
  29. With the aid of an assistant, remove the headliner out through the rear of the vehicle.
