Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Position the I/P harness to the vehicle.
  2. Pass the exterior portion of the I/P harness through the bulkhead.
  3. Install the I/P harness grommet to the bulkhead.
  4. Connect the I/P harness inline electrical connector (1) to the engine harness inline electrical connector.

  5. Connect the I/P harness electrical connector (2) to the powertrain control module.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  7. Install the grounding nut (1) that retains the ground terminals to the weld stud located on the front plenum.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (88 lb in).

  8. Install the grounding bolt (2) that retains the ground terminals to the front fender.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (88 lb in).

  10. Connect the I/P harness inline electrical connector to the chassis inline wiring harness.

  12. Connect the 2 two-way I/P harness electrical connectors (3) to the underhood junction block base.
  13. Connect the battery positive cable terminal (2) to the underhood junction block.
  14. Install the battery cable terminal nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (88 lb in).

  15. Connect the I/P harness in line electrical connector (1) to the forward lamp harness.

  17. Connect the I/P harness electrical connector (1) to the windshield wiper motor.
  18. Install the I/P harness retaining clip to the plenum weld stud.
  19. Install the air inlet grille. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Envoy, TrailBlazer)Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Rainier) in Wipers/Washer Systems
  20. Close the hood.
  21. Install the HVAC module assembly to the vehicle. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

  23. Connect the discharge air temperature electrical connector (1) to the HVAC actuator.
  24. Connect the defroster (4), air conditioning (3), and drivers side temperature valve (2) electrical connectors to the HVAC actuators.

  26. Connect the air inlet electrical connector to the HVAC actuator.
  27. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the HVAC discharge air temperature sensor.

  29. Connect the electrical connectors (1) to the transfer case shift control module, located near the left side of the steering wheel support bracket.

  31. Install the bolts (1) that retain the I/P wire harness to the I/P support bracket.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in).

  33. If equipped, connect the electrical connector to the clutch pedal switch.

  35. Connect the electrical connector (3) to the steering column.
  36. Install the steering column electrical connector bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

  37. Connect the electrical connector to the stop lamp switch (1).
  38. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the accelerator pedal sensor.

  40. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the floor auxiliary blower motor.
  41. Connect the electrical connectors (1) to the discharge air temperature sensors.
  42. Install the splice pack retaining bolt located at the front of the shift lever bracket.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (88 lb in).

  43. Connect the 4-way in line electrical connector located near the SDM.
  44. Connect the 10-way in line electrical connector located near the SDM.
  45. Connect the SDM electrical connectors.
  46. Connect the park brake electrical connector (2).

  47. Connect the automatic transmission shift interlock electrical connector (1).
  48. Connect the SIR electrical connector (1).
  49. Attach the rosebud that retains the theft deterrent shock sensor to the I/P support bracket, if equipped.
  50. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the passenger temperature valve.

  52. Connect the electrical connector (3) to the HVAC evaporator blower motor resister pack.
  53. Install the HVAC support bracket to the I/P substrate. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Replacement .
  54. If replacing the I/P harness on a TrailBlazer, Envoy or Bravada, install the I/P harness electrical connectors to the cellular communication module. Refer to Communication Interface Module Replacement (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)Communication Interface Module Replacement (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL) in Cellular Communications.

  56. Connect the inline body electrical connector from the body wiring harness electrical connector.

  58. If replacing the I/P harness on a TrailBlazer EXT or Envoy XL, connect the two inline I/P wire harness electrical connectors to the body harness.
  59. Pass the I/P wire harnesses through the rear carpet in order to install the I/P harness to the rear electrical center.
  60. Install the rear carpet. Refer to Carpet Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada) or Carpet Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL) or Carpet Replacement - Rear (Envoy XUV) in Interior Trim.
  61. Install the I/P harness to the rear electrical center. Refer to Rear Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement in Wiring Systems.
  62. Install the I/P. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Assembly Replacement .
  63. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  64. If replacing the I/P harness on a TrailBlazer, Envoy or Bravada, install the rear seat cushions. Refer to Seat Cushion Replacement - Rear No. 1 (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada) in Seats.
  65. If replacing the I/P harness on TrailBlazer EXT or Envoy XL, install the second row seats. Refer to Seat Replacement - Rear No. 1 (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL, Envoy XUV) in Seats
  66. Install the front seats. Refer to Seat Replacement - Front Bucket in Seats.
  67. Enable the SIR. Refer toSIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
  68. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Replacement (4.2L Engine) or Battery Negative Cable Replacement (5.3L Engine) in Engine Electrical.
