Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below left side of instrument panel. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, inspect Class 2 data link communications circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Body Control Module (BCM). If scan tool communicates with BCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, inspect data link communications circuits.
  3. Select SIR display on scan tool. If scan tool displays DTC's that begin with "U", inspect Class 2 data link communication circuits and components. If other DTC's are displayed, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). If scan tool communicates with SDM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with SDM, inspect Class 2 data link communication circuits.
  5. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, go to DTC B1000 . If other DTC's are displayed, diagnose appropriate DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION  table.
