Disassembly Procedure

  1. Remove the large boot retaining clamp from the CV joint seal.

    Use a side cutter or other suitable tool and discard the clamp.

  2. Remove the small boot retaining clamp from the joint seal.

    Use a side cutter or other suitable tool and discard the clamp.

  3. Place reference marks on the inboard and outboard joint shafts.
  4. Pull out the inboard joint.
  5. Place reference marks on the outboard joint shaft, the inner race and cage.
  6. Remove the 6 balls from the outboard joint shaft.
  7. Wipe the grease from the face of the joint inner race, cage, balls, etc.
  8. Slide the cage toward the outboard joint.
  9. Remove the snap ring.
  10. Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the inner race from the shaft.
  11. IMPORTANT: All traces of old grease and any contaminates must be removed.
  12. Clean the following thoroughly with clean solvent:
    • The inner race
    • The outer race
    • The cage
    • The balls
    • The axle shaft exposed end
  13. Thoroughly air dry all the parts.
