Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If you removed the coil spring, install the coil spring. Refer to Coil Spring Replacement (FWD)  or Coil Spring Replacement (AWD) .

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the shock absorber and the 3 nuts (2,3,6).

    Tighten:  Tighten the nuts to 80 N.m (59.0 lb ft).

    3. IMPORTANT: Do not tighten the lower shock absorber nut or bolt. The weight of the vehicle must be on the tire and wheel assemblies before tightening the nut and bolt.
  3. Install the bolt (5) and the nut (4).
  4. Install the 3 bolts in order to retain the lower control arm to the body.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 65 N.m (47.9 lb ft).

    5. IMPORTANT: Do not tighten the stabilizer shaft link nut. The weight of the vehicle must be on the tire and wheel assemblies before tightening the nut.
  5. Install the nut and the stabilizer shaft link stud to the lower control arm.
  6. Remove the jack and the block of wood.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Install the shock absorber fastener access panel (1).
  9. Install the tool storage compartment. Refer to Tool Storage Compartment Replacement in Interior Trim.
  10. Install the rear storage compartment. Refer to Storage Compartment Replacement - Rear in Interior Trim.
  11. Install the rear accessory panel. Refer to Accessory Panel Replacement - Rear in Interior Trim.
  12. Install the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Compartment Front Side in Interior Trim.
  13. Bounce the rear of the vehicle in order to stabilize the suspension.
  14. Tighten the lower shock absorber nut (4) and the bolt (5).

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut and the bolt to 140 N.m (103.3 lb ft).

  15. Tighten the nut to the stabilizer shaft link stud.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 44 N.m (32.5 lb ft).

  16. Measure the wheel alignment. Adjust if necessary. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment in Wheel Alignment.
