Disabling System

WARNING: Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Read and follow service precautions. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
NOTE: When AIR BAG fuse is removed and ignition is on, AIR BAG warning light will be on. This does not indicate a system malfunction.
  1. Turn steering wheel to place vehicle wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition off. Remove key.
  2. Remove AIR BAG fuse (10-amp) from instrument panel fuse block, located on right side of center console. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip and disconnect driver-side air bag module connector, located at base of steering column. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove CPA clip from passenger-side air bag module connector, located under passenger-side instrument panel. Disconnect connector. See Fig 2. Release center push points from rear upper headliner trim panel. Remove left and right D-pillar trim panels.
  4. Remove coat hooks from left and right sides of headliner. Carefully lower headliner to access head impact air bag module connectors, located above left and right D-pillars. See Fig 3. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clips from connectors. Disconnect connectors.
