Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. If the caliper piston (13) is not compressed into the caliper bore, complete the following steps:
    1. Wrap the handle of a hammer with tape.
    2. Use the handle of a hammer in order to compress the caliper piston into the caliper bore.

  3. Apply disc brake grease to the pad side of the inner pad insulator (1).
  4. Install the inner pad insulator to the inner brake pad (2).
  5. Install the inner brake pad to the caliper with the wear indicator facing upward.
  6. Apply disc brake grease to the pad side of the outer pad insulator (4).
  7. Install the outer pad insulator to the outer brake pad (3).
  8. Install the outer brake pad to the caliper.
  9. Install the springs (7,9) to the pads.

  11. While pressing the inner spring (1), install the upper pad guide pin (2) and the lower pad guide pin.
  12. Install the clip to the pad guide pin.
  13. Install the tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. With the engine OFF, gradually apply and release the brake pedal several times in order to position the caliper pistons and the brake pads.
  16. Fill the master cylinder fluid reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling in Hydraulic Brakes.
  17. Burnish the pads and the rotors. Refer to Burnishing Pads and Rotors .
