Valve Clearance Adjustment

  1. Turn the crankshaft so the related rocker arm, where the valve clearance is to be adjusted, is fully pushed down.
  2. Install J 45785-1  onto the spark plug tube. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  3. IMPORTANT: To avoid unlocking the valve spring keeper, do not allow clearance between the valve retainer and J 45785-1  . See Special Tools and Equipment .

  4. Operate the lever on J 45785  so the tool seat surface comes to contact with the valve retainer and lock them with the set screw. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  5. Lock the set screw on the spark plug tube side of J 45785  . See Special Tools and Equipment .

  7. Rotate the crankshaft so the camshaft is positioned as shown.

  9. Using J 45785-2  , lift the rocker arm and remove the valve adjusting shim. See Special Tools and Equipment .
