Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the intake manifold and new gasket.
    2. Fig 1: Intake Manifold Bolts And Nuts

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the intake manifold bolts and nuts.

    Tighten: 

    • Tighten the upper intake manifold nuts and bolts to 34 N.m (25 lb ft).
    • Tighten the lower intake manifold bolt to 46 N.m (34 lb ft).

  3. Install the alternator bracket and 2 bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the alternator bracket bolts to 29 N.m (21 lb ft).

  4. Install the intake manifold bracket with 2 bolts and one nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the intake manifold bracket bolts and nut to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the oil dipstick guide tube and bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the oil dipstick guide tube bolt to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install one bolt to the engine wire harness bracket.

    Tighten:  Tighten the engine wire harness bracket bolts to 10 N.m (7 lb ft).

  7. Clip the engine wire harness to the top of the generator.
  8. Connect the oil pressure switch and 2 ground connectors.
  9. Connect the rocker arm (CMP) control solenoid valve connector.
  10. Connect the CMP actuator solenoid valve connector.
  11. Connect the camshaft position sensor connector.
  12. Connect the ECT sensor connector.
  13. Install the AIR solenoid valve. Refer to Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Solenoid Valve Replacement In Engine Controls.
  14. Install the one bolt and one nut to the accelerator cable bracket.

    Tighten:  Tighten the accelerator cable bracket bolts to 13 N.m (10 lb ft).

  15. Connect the PCV hose.
  16. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose.
  17. Connect the EVAP hose for the ORVR.
  18. Install the intake manifold insulator.
  19. Install the throttle body bolts. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  20. Install the engine cover.
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
