Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2002 GMC Envoy XL, 2002 GMC Envoy, and 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If SIR Diagnostic System Check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR Diagnostic System Check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Disconnect passenger-side EFS connector. See ELECTRONIC FRONTAL SENSOR (EFS)  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. If connector is damaged or corroded, go to next step. If connector is okay, go to step  4.
  3. If EFS harness connector is damaged, replace connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  13. If EFS terminals are damaged, replace EFS. Go to step  13.
  4. Disconnect SDM connector. See Figure. If SDM connector shows signs of corrosion, poor connections or other damage, go to step  11. If SDM connector is okay, go to next step.
    NOTE: Use Digital Multimeter (J-39200) and Connector Test Adapter Kit (J-35616-A) or Flat Wire Probe Adapter Kit (J-42675) when performing electrical tests.
  5. Check continuity between SDM harness connector terminals A11 and A12. See Figure. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to step  7.
  6. Repair short between circuits 349 and 354. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  13.
  7. Measure resistance of Gray wire between SDM harness connector terminal A11 and EFS connector terminal "B". See Figure & Figure . Measure resistance of Yellow wire between SDM harness connector A12 and EFS connector terminal "A". If low or no resistance is not indicated in both circuits, go to next step. If open or high resistance is found in either circuit, go to next step. If open or high resistance is not found in either circuit, go to step  9.
  8. Repair open or high resistance in applicable circuit. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  13.
  9. Check circuits 349 and 354 for shorts to ground or voltage. If shorts to ground or voltage are found, go to next step. If shorts to ground or voltage are not found, go to step  12.
  10. Repair short to ground or voltage in applicable circuit. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  13.
  11. Replace SDM connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  13.
  12. Replace EFS. See ELECTRONIC FRONTAL SENSOR (EFS)  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. Go to next step.
  13. Reconnect all SIR components. Using scan tool, clear all SIR DTC's. Road test vehicle, then check for DTC's. If DTC B0101 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B0101 is not retrieved, SIR system is normal.
  14. Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
  15. Using scan tool, clear all SIR DTC's. Road test vehicle, then check for DTC's. If DTC B0101 is retrieved, go to step  2. If DTC is not retrieved, system is okay. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
