Circuit Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2002 GMC Envoy XL, 2002 GMC Envoy, and 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

When ignition is turned on, Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) performs tests to diagnose critical internal malfunctions. SDM provides input power to Side Impact Sensor (SIS). SIS performs internal diagnostics, then sends an identification message to SDM. SDM receives identification message within 5 seconds of power being turned on and determines if message is valid or not valid. SIS continually communicates a status message to SDM. SDM can reset SIS by removing and reapplying power to SIS.
