1 Did you review the Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation? Go to Step 2  Go to Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation 
2 Actuate the hatch switch located on the IP.
Did the hatch glass release?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3

  1. Connect a test lamp between the glass hatch actuator feed circuit at the actuator and ground.
  2. Actuate the hatch switch.
Did the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 5 
4 Test the ground circuit of the glass hatch actuator for continuity. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 17  Go to Step 9

  1. Connect a test lamp between the glass hatch actuator feed circuit at the multifunction alarm module and ground.
  2. Actuate the hatch switch.
Did the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 12  Go to Step 6 
6 Test for continuity in the glass hatch actuator switch circuit between the multifunction alarm module and ground.
Did you measure continuity when the glass hatch switch is actuated?
Go to Step 11  Go to Step 7 
7 Test the glass hatch actuator switch for continuity when the switch is pressed.
Does the switch have continuity when the switch is pressed?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 10 
8 Test the ground side of the glass hatch actuator switch for continuity. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 17  Go to Step 13 
9 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the glass hatch actuator and courtesy switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 17  Go to Step 14 
10 Inspect for poor connections at the glass hatch actuator switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 17  Go to Step 15 
11 Inspect for poor connections at the multifunction alarm module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 17  Go to Step 16 
12 Repair the open glass hatch actuator feed circuit between the glass hatch actuator and the multifunction alarm module. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 17  -
13 Repair the open glass hatch actuator switch circuit between the glass hatch actuator switch and the multifunction alarm module. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 17  -
14 Replace the glass hatch actuator and courtesy switch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Liftgate Window  .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 17  -
15 Replace the glass hatch actuator switch.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 17  -
16 Replace the multifunction alarm module. Refer to Multifunction Alarm Module Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 17  -
17 Operate the system in order to verify the repair
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
