Removal & Installation (Impala-Driver-side)

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Turn ignition on. Turn steering wheel so that 2 holes on back of steering wheel are accessible. Install Air Bag Module Remover (J-44248) into holes on rear of steering wheel. See Figure. Release driver-side air bag module spring clips. Turn steering wheel 180 degrees. Repeat procedure for remaining 2 spring clips.
  3. Pull driver-side air bag module away from steering wheel. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clips from driver-side air bag connectors. Disconnect connectors. See Figure. Remove horn ground lead from steering wheel. Turn horn contact lead 1/4 turn counterclockwise to release from steering wheel. Remove horn contact lead from steering column. Remove air bag module.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure wires are not pinched during assembly. Activate air bag system
