Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Fig 1: Transaxle Oil Level/Filler Plug

  3. Remove the transaxle oil level/filler plug (2) from the transaxle.
  4. Inspect the transaxle oil level.

    Ensure that the oil level is even with the bottom of the transaxle oil level/filler plug hole.

  5. If the oil level is low, adjust the oil level accordingly by adding Type gear oil GL-4 or GL-5, SAE 75W-90 or the equivalent.
  6. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  7. Install the transaxle oil level/filler plug into the transaxle after applying GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or the equivalent, in order to plug the threads.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transaxle oil level/filler plug to 39 N.m (29 lb ft).

  8. Lower the vehicle.
