Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Disconnect the shift cables from the transaxle assembly. Refer to Shift Cable Replacement .
  3. Disconnect the backup lamp switch connector from the switch.
  4. Fig 1: Lever Retaining Bolts

  5. Remove the backup lamp switch from the transaxle.

  7. Remove the 3 bolts and the shift control support bracket from the transaxle.

    IMPORTANT: When removing the shift control lever notice that there is a shift control lever bushing and that it must be replaced in its original position, or incorrect shifting may occur.
  9. Remove the 2 bolts and the control shift lever from the transaxle
  10. Remove the shift control lever bushing from the transaxle.

  12. Remove the lock ball assembly from the transaxle.

  14. Remove the 4 gear case lever bolts.
  15. Remove the gear case lever assembly from the transaxle.
  16. Remove the gasket.
