Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important: The replacement compressor is shipped without PAG oil.

Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities .

Add the proper amount of PAG oil to the compressor crankcase.
NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
Install the compressor drain plug (1).
Tighten

Tighten the drain plug to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

Install the A/C compressor bracket and the mounting bolts.
Tighten
- Tighten the upper bracket bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Tighten the lower bracket bolt to 80 N.m (59 lb ft).
Install the A/C compressor.
Install the A/C compressor front nuts.
Tighten

Tighten the nuts to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).
Install the A/C compressor rear bolts.
Tighten

Tighten the bolts to 31 N.m (23 lb ft).

Install new sealing washers. Refer to Compressor Sealing Washers Replacement .
Install the A/C compressor hose to the compressor.
Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the compressor.
Tighten

Tighten the nut to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).
Connect the electrical connector to the A/C compressor.
Install the splash shield to the right side of the engine. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT -- ENGINE .
Install the lower air deflector. Refer to RADIATOR AIR BAFFLE AND DEFLECTOR REPLACEMENT - LOWER .
Lower the vehicle.
Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to DRIVE BELT TENSIONER REPLACEMENT (L36) or DRIVE BELT TENSIONER REPLACEMENT (L67) .

Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
