Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Yukon, 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: If the gasket or the seal for the transfer case adapter becomes damaged, replace it. DO NOT use any type of silicone sealer or liquid gasket maker in place of the seal or gasket.

  1. Install the new transfer case adapter seal.

  3. Install the transfer case adapter to the transmission.
  4. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  5. Install the transfer case adapter mounting bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transfer case adapter mounting bolts to 50 N.m (34 lb ft).

  7. Install the transmission mount.

  9. Install the transmission mount bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transmission mount bolts to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  11. Install the transmission support to the frame.
  12. Install the transmission support mounting bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transmission support mounting bolts to 70 N.m (51 lb ft).

  14. Install the transmission mount retaining nuts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transmission mount retaining nuts to 40 N.m (29 lb ft).

  15. Remove the transmission jack from the transmission.

  17. Install the new transfer case gasket.
  18. Install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  19. Check the transfer case fluid level. Refer to Transfer Case Fluid Replacement .
  20. Lower the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
