Energy Absorbing - Bumpers

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The front and the rear bumpers contain energy absorbers which are made of a polystyrene material. The energy absorbers are positioned between the bumper impact bar and the bumper fascia. The vehicle bumpers are designed to withstand a collision into a fixed barrier at 8 km/h (5 mph) with minimal damage. After absorbing the energy of a minor collision, these bumper system restore themselves to their original position.
