Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install a new gasket on the gear case lever assembly.
  2. Install the gear case lever assembly in the transaxle.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  3. Install the 4 gear case lever retaining bolts

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  4. Install the gear shift guide case gasket.
  5. Install the gear shift guide case and the 4 bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the gear shift guide case bolts to 20 N.m (14 lb ft).

  6. Install the lock ball assembly in the transaxle case.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the lock ball assembly to 29 N.m (22 lb ft).

  7. Install the shift control lever bushing on the shift control lever.

  8. Install the shift control lever on the transaxle case.
  9. Install the 2 lever retaining bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (19 lb ft).

  10. Install the shift control lever support bracket on the transaxle case.
  11. Install the 3 bracket retaining bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 11 N.m (8 lb ft).

  12. Install the back up lamp switch with a new gasket.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the switch to 40 N.m (30 lb ft).

  13. Connect the back up lamp switch electrical connector.

  14. Connect the shift cables.
  15. Install the air cleaner assembly.
