Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT CAUTION in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM   .
  3. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT  in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING & JACKING VEHICLE in General Information.
  5. Remove the right side lower engine splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE - RIGHT  in Body Front End.
  6. Remove the left side lower engine splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE - LEFT  in Body Front End.
  7. Remove the generator. Refer to GENERATOR  in Engine Electrical.
  8. On LV6 engine, remove the water pump pulley.
  9. On all engines, remove the following components from the vehicle:
    • The 6 water pump bolts (1, 2)
    • The water pump
  10. Remove the O-ring from the vehicle.
