Removal & Installation (Driver-side)

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Turn ignition on. Turn steering wheel so that 2 holes on back of steering wheel are accessible. Install Air Bag Module Remover (J-44248) into holes. See Figure. Release driver-side air bag module spring clips. Turn steering wheel 180 degrees and repeat procedure for remaining 2 spring clips.
  3. Remove cruise control lever cover and cruise control lever using one finger of Air Bag Module Remover (J-44248) to release spring locks. Pull air bag module away from steering wheel.
  4. Remove both Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clips from driver-side air bag connectors and disconnect connectors. Remove horn ground lead from steering wheel. Turn horn contact lead 1/4 turn counterclockwise to release from steering wheel. Remove horn contact lead from steering column cam tower. Remove driver-side air bag module.
  5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure wires are not pinched during assembly. Activate air bag system.
