Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to REFRIGERANT RECOVERY AND RECHARGING   .
  2. Loosen the drive belt tension by turning the tensioner clockwise.
  3. Remove the compressor serpentine drive belt.

  4. Disconnect the compressor clutch electrical connector (2).

  5. Remove the 1 bolt (7) and the compressor and condenser hose assembly (6) from the compressor.

    Important:  Cap the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the refrigeration system.

  6. Remove the compressor upper mounting bolt (8).
  7. Raise and suitably support vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
  8. Remove the engine splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE - RIGHT in Body Front End.
  9. Remove the 2 compressor lower mounting bolts (4) and the compressor (3) from the vehicle.
  10. If the compressor is to be replaced, drain and measure the amount of oil in the compressor.
